Fabric button maker

Waktu teman Milis Popok Kain memberikan info ttg alat mini utk membuat kancing bungkus, saya langsung tertarik. Soalnya harganya tidaklah mahal dibanding dgn fabric button maker yg berbentuk plier maupun press. Tapi saat itu saya hanya tahu tempat beli di Indonesia dan US.

Kemudian, Madame Iv, my local sewing gossip friend ^_^, memberikan info bahwa toko Eurodif menjual alat ini. Great!

Hari ini, saya juga melihat produk sejenis di toko Mondial Tissus dekat Bourges. Sayangnya, mereka tdk menjual aluminium button-nya , hanya kit berisi maker + beberapa alu buttons.

Review dikit: cara pakainya simple banget. Gampang... 

Update: Rascol jual kancing dg ukuran yg saya cari, 19mm. Tp satu paket isinya 100 & ada maker-nya juga. Mubazir ngga ya...

Transfer Gambar

Bbrp bulan lalu, saya memberikan buku kpd si sulung tentang memindahkan gambar ke berbagai macam benda, salah satunya ke bahan kain. Saya sendiri penasaran ingin mencoba.

First trial, memindahkan logo Milis Popok Kain ke selembar bahan linen. Rencananya akan dijadikan tempat pinsil, tentunya setelah dijahit. Ternyata saya lupa bahwa gambar yang dipindahkan dari transfer paper ke bahan kain itu akan terbalik, kanan menjadi kiri, dan sebaliknya. Hal ini tidak menjadi masalah BILA gambar tidak mengandung tulisan. Krn ada tulisan, jadinya sulit dibaca (butuh cermin, hahaha...).

Trial kedua, gambar saja, berbentuk kuda. Dipindahkan ke selembar t-shirt si sulung berwarna putih polos. Sukses!

Trial ketiga, mencoba lagi si logo Milis Popok Kain. Sebelumnya, dibalik dulu. Saya tdk punya Photoshop, dan saya cek di photobucket sptnya tidak ada feature membalik ala cermin (cmiiw). Sampai akhirnya saya diskusi dgn teman yg cukup ahli (cieh...) dan dia mengingatkan saya ttg picnik. Saya sudah lupa password di situs picnik tapi akhirnya bisa login. Dan... logonya bisa diputar, saudara-saudara... Bahagianya hatiku...

Bahan hanya transfer paper, printer (lupa detailnya), setrika dan bahan kain (atau kaos t-shirt siap pakai).

Supposed to be... not a Clutch

I love U Handbag blog. It's very informatif and having some free tutorials for making bags. I have been eyeing on one tutorial, The Graceful Kelly Bag. Then I finally ordered a big purse frame in Au Pays d'Alice (they will be closing their store soon, everything is on sale) and got a nice fabric on sale in Mondial Tissus store. Since the size of the frame was not the same with the one in U Handbag tutorial, I followed another tutorial to make my own bag design (it's on the same blog).

With my limited experience of making bags, I tried so hard to make that Graceful Kelly Bag. It was my first 'contact' with some interfacings (hm, I'm still learning about interfacing and interlining things...) and it was not easy. But as usual, we learnt from mistakes. And I have learned a lot.

At the end, the bag was transformed into a clutch. Don't ask why... I will try again later *still dreaming of that Graceful Kelly Bag*

Lazy Days Skirts

My little miss likes skirts so much. And one day, she asked for a skirt like Minnie Mouse had. Polka dots skirt. I think she has been watching Playhouse Disney too much, right? Well, I did not have the pinky polka dots fabric. Only red polka dots. Bought it last year for her birthday (I planned to make one Minnie dress for her but nope, I didn't do it). So, with that fabric, I made the Minnie skirt she wanted.

Two skirts that I finally made last week. The pattern was from Oliver + S website (thank you so much!). It was so easy and simple. I think this project is very suitable for beginners like me.  And you can google all images with the title "Oliver + S skirt" to see all cute skirt creations made by many moms around the world. So beautiful!

Seventh Trimsies

Voilà! C'est la dernière culotte d'apprentissage que j'ai fait. Kemarin saya nemu beberapa bahan yang sudah dipotong tapi belum dijahit. Yup, kebiasaan. Nyiapin bahan spy pas ada waktu langsung bisa dijahit. Ternyata waktunya ngga muncul2. 

Ini adalah salah satunya: Trimsies trainer ukuran M dengan side snap. Akhirnya saya jahit semalam dengan susah payah (ganjel mata dgn korek api :) ). Sistemnya AIO. So no stuffing thing.

Outer: PUL

Inner: microfleece

Soaker: microfiber 2 layers

Kali ini, tantangannya lebih kepada si microfleece yang punya sifat stretch. Saat soaker dijahitkan ke microfleece, luas penampang (halah...) kain tsb menjadi berkurang krn berkerut ke dalam (ke bagian jahitan antara microfleece dan soaker). Akhirnya, bentuk si inner menjadi tidak seragam dgn outer. Ke depannya, kalau berinteraksi lagi dengan microfleece di mesin jahit, saya akan coba utk membuat seam allowance lebih besar lagi.

Suprisingly, hasilnya ngga terlalu buruk. Malah lebih baik daripada Trimsies2 saya sebelumnya. Mungkin memang ini plus point dari penggunaan PUL bersama dengan microfleece sebagai pasangan inner outer. Ketebalannya tidak menyulitkan saya. Lain halnya dengan inner dari jenis terry (cotton, bamboo, hemp) or regular fleece. Tebel bok!

Berhubung si kecil sudah tidak terlalu membutuhkan trainer lagi, jadi this Zinnia Trimsies Trainer will go to... *thinking*

 O iya, kl yg ini late post. Goodness Gracious Diaper size S buat anak teman saya. Fitted type, baru bulan lalu saya bikin. Saya merasa kurang sreg dengan polanya karena...  lupa *doeng...*. Pingin coba pattern yang lain...

Happy New Year!

May 2012 give us lots of love and happiness... Also, life security, a peaceful world and so on (so many wishes for this new year).

And now, when I have a little time to update this blog, I would like to post some crafty things I made during the past couple weeks. First, the checkbook covers.

The first one, I made it on Mother's Day, Dec 22, 2011 (Indonesian). A gift for myself :D. Cute fabric but it was a bit bigger for my checkbook. However, I could put other things like prescription papers from our doctors. At the end, not bad... Multifunction.

Then the second checkbook cover, for my father-in-law, it was perfect in term of size. The only problem was a little stain from my steam iron water. And another thing, my daughter said it was too girly (the colors) but I said, hm, ça va... My faither-in-law loved it too like I did.

A week after, I made a reversible tote bag in a very girly colors and prints (big smile) for my moonlight princess. She could use it for taking some books to/from the library. I really love the result. And my both daughters like it too! It made me think to sew another tote bag from the same fabrics but smaller for my little star. Love, love, love both...!

Tutorial resources:

• Checkbook cover: We are the Robinsons! I modified the size, I did not use any applique. 
• Reversible tote bag: Skip to My Lou. I used the exact measurements except for the little tote (8" x 9" for outside & lining pieces, 4"x30" for the straps).

Felt Deco

I planned to make felt crafts for the school event couple days ago. But every time I finished one cute thing, my lil one claimed it as hers. I could not say no. Then I decided to cancel my plan and used these for our wall decoration.

For the owl, I got the idea from No Sew Felt Owl Plush tutorial. Then I tried to draw the pattern by myself. I should make the eyelashes but nope..., the lil one grabbed the owl before it finished.

The birthday....

Snack Bags

I'm in the middle of preparing my older daughter's birthday... again. She will be 10 years old next month. Preadolescent with some developmental issues *be ware*.

So far I have made some snack bags for the goody bags. The tutorial is from Laura Wilson (see here) and I have tried it once for Fabric Gift Wrapping. I love it... So easy and simple with a nice end result. This time I used Ikea fabric with neutral print & color since my daughter will have guests from both gender, her girl friends and boy friends (real friends, ok?) :D

I put some ribbons for girl snack bags just to make them different than the boys' and... it will easier to carry in their hands. I plan to fill those snack bags with food, bookmark and thank you card. We will see...

See the photo below. My daughter already used her snack bag to keep her girly stuffs she received from her aunty, Lidya. Too bad I do not have a photo of another snack bag belongs to my lil baby... She uses it to keep her Pokemon balls & toys... LOL....

DIY Cloth Napkins

This was one project that I planned together with my friend, Iv. As beginners, we needed simple projects to become familiar with our new friends, sewing machines. And, as written in Lotta's book, cloth napkin is a good project for beginner like us. 

Yes, simple project but it made me happy since I love using cloth napkins for our meal time.

The ones with mitered corners were a bit more difficult than the usual ones. But I really love the results. It looks classy... for me.
